Christopher Michael "Chris" Pratt (born June 21, 1979) is an American actor. He is known for his television roles, playing Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation and Harold Brighton "Bright" Abbott in Everwood, as well as for supporting performances in acclaimed films such as Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, and Her. He also provided the voice of Emmet Brickowski in the 2014 computer animated film The Lego Movie and is set to appear as Peter Quill / Star-Lord in the upcoming Marvel Studios superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy in August 2014.

    Personal life

Pratt was born in Virginia, Minnesota, and raised in Lake Stevens, Washington, where he placed fifth in a state wrestling tournament as a high school student. He married actress Anna Faris on July 9, 2009 in Bali. On August 25, 2012, they had a son, Jack.

Pratt was waiting tables at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant in Maui, Hawaii, when he was discovered by actor-director Rae Dawn Chong; she cast him in the horror film Cursed Part 3. Pratt's first regular television role was on the series Everwood, where he co-starred as Harold Brighton "Bright" Abbott. After Everwood's cancellation, Pratt joined the cast of The O.C. for its fourth season, playing Ché, an activist. He also had an appearance in the action film Wanted, as James McAvoy's character's best friend. He read for the lead role of Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, which eventually went to Chris Pine.

Pratt has portrayed the dimwitted but lovable Andy Dwyer in NBC's Parks and Recreation since 2009. Originally meant to be a temporary character (he is credited as a guest star throughout season one), Pratt proved to be so likable that producers asked him back as a series regular. This led to his character being written much more sympathetically at the start of season two. He also portrayed Scott Hatteberg in the movie Moneyball, with costars Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Prior to the release of Moneyball, Pratt was "typecast," typically portraying youthful and somewhat immature characters. In Moneyball, he had the opportunity to play a father as well as a dejected baseball player who once feared his career was over, who had the difficult task of learning an entirely new defensive position. Pratt lost 30 pounds for the role.

In February 2013, Pratt was cast in the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy. In November 2013, he revealed he has signed a multi-film deal with Marvel Studios. On March 28, 2014, Pratt won the CinemaCon Award for Breakthrough Performer, for his highly anticipated work in Guardians of the Galaxy.

In mid-November 2013, Pratt replaced Josh Brolin for the film Jurassic World and was in early negotiations for the lead role, a "rugged, ex-military man named Owen." Ron Howard tweeted in January 2014 that Pratt had a starring role in the film, which Pratt later confirmed.
